THE PROVERBS - BIO - CURRENT
The longevity of the Proverbs as one of Canada's best known Christian artists is well documented, yet it has always has been difficult for observers to clearly identify their exact style. Rather than fitting into a single music format, the Proverbs enjoy many different musical influences which are reflected in their music. The result is a tasteful mixture of several different musical styles - all of which include the Proverbs' "trademark" smooth, tight vocal harmonies. As a result, it can be said that the music of the Proverbs speaks for itself!
While each of the group's members got their start in traditional gospel music, today, the Proverbs often blur the lines between southern gospel, inspirational, adult contemporary and other forms of gospel music with a unique blend that can range from traditional SG to contemporary R&B, new country and even bluegrass! As a result of this diversity, the Proverbs have shared billing with many of gospel music's best known artists - including the majority of those featured on the Gaither Homecoming video series.
Although all the members of this group are accomplished musicians, today, the Proverbs perform as a vocal group, accompanied by the background music from their current CDs. The Proverbs are currently touring in support of their latest Summit Sound album - "The Proverbs - Release" and are now in the studio completing their 19th album "Give it Away" which should be available in the summer of 2008.
The Proverbs is currently comprised of founding group member Dave Daw and his wife Kathy, along with Dave's sister Karyl Tymciw and her husband Paul. The group is busy on a part-time basis, performing most weekends.
Dave & Kathy were married in 1979, and have four children, Jeremy, Justin, Angela & Natasha. Karyl & Paul were married in 1985 and have three children, Ashley, Ben and Jaccob. The Daws reside in Westport, ON - where (during the week) they operate a professional recording studio (Summit Sound), specializing in CD & DVD manufacturing, graphic design, custom printing and church sound system sales and installation. The Tymciw's, live in Amhersview, ON - where (during the week) Karyl is employed as a receptionist at Briarcrest Nursing Home and Paul works at the Kingston Co-op.
The Proverbs are dedicated to active Christian service through a music ministry that currently spans 5 decades! From humble beginnings in 1967, as a group of elementary school children, the Proverbs rose to national and international recognition as CANADA'S TOP MIXED GOSPEL GROUP - an honor bestowed upon them by the Canadian Gospel Music Association more than a dozen times. Kathy Daw has been voted Canada's top female gospel vocalist by CGMA 7 times and Dave & Kathy Daw, received the "CGMA (lifetime) ACHIEVEMENT AWARD" in recognition of outstanding contributions to the advancement of Gospel Music In Canada.
The Proverbs are best known for their commitment to quality music presentations that remain musically current, while emphasizing unchanging Christian family values. The Proverbs dedication to excellence results from a personal conviction that, "anything we do for Christ should be done to the best of our ability". Proverbs group members endeavor to conduct their personal lives and ministry, mindful of II Corinthians 5:20 - "We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us".
Each of the members of the Proverbs are born-again Christian believers, dedicated to sharing their personal faith through both live and recorded musical performances that combine humour, professional sound production and quality music in an enjoyable package that is sure to be appreciated by listeners of any age.
